All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin, and therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words 'Ich bin ein Berliner!'” (John Fitzgerald Kennedy)
This phrase was spoken by him during the Cold War, in a speech given in West Berlin at Rudolph Wilde Platz. It served as moral encouragement to the residents of the city, then surrounded by East Germany and feared to be invaded.
