Fountain pen from the Yukari Namiki collection. This collection transforms traditional nature scenes into extraordinary fantasies. The design of the Double Gold Fish showcases the combined beauty of the Togidashi-è and Taka-maki-e techniques in a complex expression of bas-reliefs.
The Namiki Yukari Double Fish is the most famous maki-e pen in the Yukari collection.
It has been used by many authors of collectible pen books.
The goldfish is one of the most popular and difficult themes to execute with the maki-e technique. Many artisans have created goldfish, but none have done better than those from the Kokko Kai school in Japan.
Among Gold Fish themed maki-e pens, the Namiki double goldfish is the most popular. This is because the goldfish is so realistic that one might see it swimming out of the pen.
The goldfish was crafted using the taka maki-e technique: the artisan patiently sketches the fish in a seemingly endless succession of operations until the final detail is completed. You can observe, with the aid of a magnifying glass, the tail and fin of the fish to "perceive" all this work.
Using the togidahi maki-e technique, which gives a translucent effect, there is a sensation that the goldfish swims elegantly and splendidly in the water.
The entire layout of the pen is very simple but well planned: a goldfish on the cap and another on the barrel, depicted facing each other.
