The artist, with this very particular maki-e coloring, wants to share the sensations and emotions experienced while observing the light of the sunset filtering through the trees of a forest.
It's sunset - 'Yuuyake' and the tranquil forest shows a deep crimson red color ("Kurenai"). This is the special moment when the deep red light filters through the dark green of the trees before night finally falls.
The gradient of dark yellow-green portrays the ever-changing color shift in the forest with the gradual fading of the day at sunset.
The body of the King Of Pen is entirely made of lacquered ebonite.
